Members of the Klean Team have directly contributed substantial time and finances to building sustainable development and 'eco-tourism' in the Gili Islands. The Sunset Gecko was created from the ground up in less than one year and is currently open for business as of Jan 07.
Members of the Klean Team have also applied funds to develop and create a locally grown Gili Islands NGO which will provide a strong and supportive network of environmentally empowered individuals using the latest tools, techniques, technologies and information creating profound environmental education and awareness amongst both locals and tourist alike. In turn, sound economic growth is developed for the region while protecting the environment and the beauty which keeps tourists and travelers visiting the region.
We believe in bringing diverse communities together to work for changes that improve and empower our lives, promoting sensible solutions for people and the environment.

"The International Ecotourism Society" - Founded in 1990, TIES is the largest and oldest ecotourism organization in the world dedicated to promoting ecotourism - "responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people" (TIES, 1990). As a non-profit, non-governmental and multi-stakeholder association, TIES is unique in its efforts to provide guidelines and standards, training, technical assistance, research and publications to foster sound ecotourism development.

The support of our communities is vital: we undertake thorough community consultation and encourage local initiatives through our sponsorship programs. Our groundbreaking Klean Community Fund was a Canadian first when launched in November 2009.The fund supports organisations and individuals working to make a positive and lasting contribution to their communities. Funding is sourced as a percentage of revenue from existing operations and green commodity sales. A percentage of these profits will be made available to the Fund every year. The Klean Community Fund is currently reviewing several projects for initial funding in 2010.

As part of our sustainable approach to powering a cleaner world, we ensure that the development, construction and operation of our projects leave only a positive footprint on the environment. We aim to be an industry leader in environmental management and continually strive to improve our environmental performance. Our Environmental Policy describes our environmental aims and the manner in which we seek to achieve these aims. Our Environmental Policy is implemented through our Environmental Management System. Globally, our Environmental Management System is based on ISO 14001 and all of our Canadian operating sites are certified to ISO 14001.
